Welcome to Album Club

One of the best things about Twitter is experiencing a live event with your friends. Album Club brings that experience to a classic CD. We choose an album, start it at the same time, and tweet along. You'll hear it with fresh ears, and with the opinions and memories of the Twitterverse.

Album Club: The Takeover Edition - The Wedding Present's Seamonsters

Hello AlbumClubers!

It's been awhile, I know. What can I say? Things got busy with things too boring to mention here, but we're finally going to do another one. With help from @JimHart3000, our pal @fetik777 is guest curating #albumclub on Monday, March 12. We're going to listen to The Wedding Present's "Seamonsters." Here's what @fetik777 wrote about it.

"The boy Gedge has written some of the best love songs of the 'Rock ‘n’ Roll' era. You may dispute this, but I’m right and you’re wrong!" -John Peel.

On Monday, March 12th, 7:00 PM CST, Album Club (Takeover Edition) will be featuring The Wedding Present's "Seamonsters." This album was chosen not only because it is a FANTASTIC record and was recorded in Minnesota (Pachyderm w/ Steve Albini)... but because the Wedding Present are celebrating it's 21st Anniversary by touring & performing it in its entirety! The MN date is March 28th @ the 400 Bar. We hope that this event will motivate you to check out this brilliant band in their best setting: a live stage. If you don't already own this album (and you SHOULD), we will be streaming it legally through Spotify. A URL will be posted on Twitter with the #albumclub hashtag, 30 mins before the event starts. Once 7 PM hits, start the album (or join the stream), and talk about it track by track with others on Twitter (#albumclub)!

Here at Album Club World Headquarters, we're not sure if this will be a one-off, an occasional event, or a weekly thing. We just know it will be fun. Hope to see you Monday night on the Twitters and the Spotifys!

Turntable FM - Best Opening Album Tracks - Tuesday, July 12 - 9p CDT

The Album Club format is simple. You play an album. You listen to an album. You tweet about an album. So why mess with something as easy as that? Because time waits for no man! Technology marches on! Today's Twitter is tomorrow's Friendster!

We're excited about turntable.fm. Here's the concept. Music fans gather in a virtual club. Everyone gets to spin one song at a time -- any song -- from their music library or a vast online library. Everyone in the room hears that song and can chat about it or vote for/against it.

So this week, Album club presents our first ever turntable.fm session. The theme -- Best Opening Album Tracks. Pick a great first track off a great album. Or pick a great first track off a terrible album. We can discuss and vote on the song.

A few notes. You need a Facebook account to log in to turntable.FM. Tuesday night I'll send a link to the room. Only five people at a time can DJ, but we'll take turns if we have more than that. There's a turntable.fm FAQ here:

See you on the wheels of steel Tuesday night!

Bruce Springsteen - Born To Run - Tuesday, June 21 - 9p CDT

On Saturday, The Big Man, Clarence Clemons passed away at the age of 69. In a statement on his web site, Bruce Springsteen said, "He was my great friend, my partner, and with Clarence at my side, my band and I were able to tell a story far deeper than those simply contained in our music."

Tuesday at 9p CDT, start Born To Run and tweet along with the hash tag #albumclub. Here's the FAQ.

Bon Iver, Bon Iver - Tuesday, June 14 - 9p CDT

For the first time ever, Album Club will listen to a new release. So new, in fact, that it's not even out yet. Bon Iver, Bon Iver is the much-anticipated second full-length release from the Eau Claire, WI native. Stephen Thompson from NPR Music calls it, "...a grand, chance-taking record: It sheds the raw nerviness of 2008's perfect For Emma, Forever Ago and replaces it with arrangements so lush and vivid, it can be hard to make out much of what Vernon sings."

Join us Album Club listens to Bon Iver, Bon Iver. The entire album is streaming online on 89.3 The Current's web site. Start it at 9p CDT Tuesday, then listen and Tweet along with the hashtag #albumclub.

Fleetwood Mac - Rumours - Tuesday, May 31 - 9p CDT

A long time ago (okay, like maybe a year ago), @johnmoe had a great idea for Twitter. It was #candyclub. Every week, he would choose a candy.  Say a Clark bar. Everyone would eat a Clark bar at the same time and talk about it on Twitter. You can see where this is going.... We at #albumclub stole his idea. We feared legal action, but instead of suing us, he's going to guest curate an album for us.

Join public radio host, author, #candyclub founder, and all-around good guy John Moe for Fleetwood Mac's Rumours. Start the album at 9p CDT Tuesday night and tweet along with the hashtag #albumclub. New to #albumclub? Here's a FAQ.

Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique - Wednesday, May 25 - 9pCDT

"Shake. Your. Rump-ah!"
You know what's been missing from Album Club? Hip-hop. So this week we're going with the 1989 Beastie Boys classic Paul's Boutique. You remember the story. Second album. Commercial failure. Critical success. Eventually certified double platinum. But really, the important part is rump shaking.

Listen and tweet along Wednesday night at 9pCDT with the hashtag #albumclub. New to Album Club? Check our FAQ.
